The Pretoria Ice Hawks Hockey Club is a family of Ice Hockey Players who enjoys the sport of Ice Hockey and wants to share their passion with others by developing new players to formally and informally participate in this exciting sport. The club is affiliated to the Gauteng Ice Hockey Association (GIHA) as well as the South African Ice Hockey Association (SAIHA) and follow the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF Curriculum for training.

Club membership is open to players of any age and any level of expertise. Training will depend on the skill level of the student and can include Skating Training (Academy), Learn To Play training and advanced training.

If you have not joined yet, we invite you to attend our FREE Open Night on the last Thursday of the month at 17H15 (On Ice) to help you decide if this club is for you. Please let me know via email or SMS a day up front, if you want to attend a Thursday session so that we can make the necessary arrangements!

You do not need any previous ice hockey experience or skating ability to join the club.  We have members ranging in age from 4 to 50! Ice Hockey is the ideal sport to get yourself into shape while having fun with the rest of your family!

Practice Sessions:

Practice sessions are presented on three levels:

  1. Academy: The objective of the academy is to teach members how to skate and do basic stick handling.
  2. Intermediate group: The intermediate group focus on basic ice hockey skills like stick handling, passing- and skating with the puck.
  3. Advanced group: The advanced group focus on drills that teach how to play the game and focus on specific advanced techniques and skills.

There are two practice sessions per week:

  • Thursdays Session #1: 17:15-18:15 (Practice Session for Beginners/Academy and U14)
  • Thursdays Session #2: 18:15-19:15 (Practice Session for Intermediate and Advanced/ U16 / U18 / 1st Division and 2nd Division)
  • Fridays: 18:00-19:00 (Informal Game (Scrimmage): By Invitation Only - For safety reasons Full ice hockey kit and skills are required) There is an additional cost involved to play on Friday evenings.

What equipment do you need to start?

It is always advisable to have as much of the ice hockey kit as possible, but it is not required when you start with the Academy. You only need your own skates. For the younger players the academy has skates and gloves available for use. The club can supply a hockey stick for practice purposes.

Once you have progressed in your ice hockey skills, you can discuss your equipment requirements with your coach or the club manager. No player will however be allowed to practice in the advanced group without full ice hockey kit. Do NOT purchase kit that are not supplied by one of teh repurible dealers or does not carry the official Bauer/CCM/Mission, etc logo's. Remember - thsis is safety gear and you need to ensure you purchase APPROVED ice hockey gear only!

Club fees

The club has a dual fee structure. There is a fee to only attend practice sessions or a fee to attend practice sessions and scrimmage sessions. The fees are published on our web site as well as on the Club Application Form which you will find under the “Downloads” section of the web site.

Please feel free to email or contact us via cell. You will also find a link on this site to our forum. If you register you can also use the forum to ask questions.
